Lights! Anchor! Skillet!

The couple that leads groups of Black American boaters on sailing vacations in the Caribbean is putting out a casting call for a cooking show at sea.

Paul and Marvelle Mixon, recently featured in the IBIT Movers series, are looking for a few travelers with good taste, sea legs and dreams of TV stardom.

“Cap’n Paul” and Marvelle have been annually organizing yachting cruises around the British Virgin Islands for nearly 20 years, drawings Black American boaters from around the United States. This year, they’re also offering a teen sailing camp.

But perhaps their most exciting news came today, when they this shot me this email:

Honey Lets Travel and Moorings Yacht Charters have authorized a clever television cooking show pilot “Cookin and Cruizin Caribbean Style.”

“Casting directors are in search of 6 – 8 talented African American men and women (28 – 65) for roles as cooking students, sous chefs, and extras to fill in a few of the scenes in the newly written pilot.

“The show is about eight people and a guest chef on a sailing adventure in the Caribbean. Together they discover the secrets of the Caribbean culture and how to prepare tasty, healthy meals in the galley of a big yacht.

“The cooking show combines a unique subject matter with cooking traditional African dishes still prepared in Caribbean cooking. The characters talk about their experiences learning to cook and the influence their family had in passing down family recipes.

“Atlanta-based Kelsher Entertainment has signed on to produce the pilot, and will assist with casting.

“When: July 25 – August 2, 2014
“Where: Tortola, and Virgin Gorda, British Virgin Islands

“Join me in the British Virgin Islands for the opportunity to cruise the islands and learn from local chefs. Meet local people and be part of the cooking video. Space is limited!

“Please video a SHORT (no more than two minutes in length) monologue about you and how your family influenced your cooking skills. Send picture and video together to cookinandcruizin@gmail.com.
